How to Print Graph Paper
Choose a Grid
Start with any of the 34 available paper types. Use the tabs to compare square, dot, isometric, and specialty layouts, then watch the live preview change as soon as you select one.
Set the Page
Adjust spacing, line weight, color, margins, and page count. Select one of six paper sizes—Letter, A4, A5, Legal, Tabloid, or A3—and use portrait or landscape orientation for the layout you need.
Download and Print
Select “Download PDF” to save the finished sheet, or choose “Print” to open a print-ready file. In your printer settings, use “Actual Size” or 100% so each square keeps its measured scale.
What Is Printable Graph Paper?
Printable graph paper is a page with a measured pattern that helps you draw, write, plan, or solve problems. This generator lets you build a sheet online instead of searching for the right pad in a store. Pick a grid style, change the spacing and line appearance, choose your page, and see the result before you save it.
Your graph paper PDF is made for regular home or office printing. The tool includes 34 paper types, six page sizes, portrait and landscape layouts, adjustable margins, and multi-page output. The result is a clean, reusable sheet for schoolwork, design, planning, or any project that needs an accurate grid.
Paper Sizes & Grid Spacing Guide
Supported Paper Sizes
Every template is available in six standard paper sizes, covering common US and international printers. Choose the page that matches your paper tray, then select portrait or landscape before you export. Each option keeps the correct physical proportions in the preview and in the PDF.
- A4 (210 × 297 mm) — the international standard; the most popular format for printable graph paper A4
- US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) — the North American default for 8.5 × 11 graph paper; prints full page on any home or office printer
- A5 (148 × 210 mm) — half-A4 for compact notebooks and planners
- A3 (297 × 420 mm) — large-format printable graph paper for posters and engineering drawings
- Legal (8.5 × 14 in) and Tabloid (11 × 17 in) — extended US formats for oversized layouts
Select portrait or landscape orientation to swap the page dimensions without stretching the grid. A 10 mm margin is the default; you can choose a 5 mm narrow margin or no margin when your printer supports edge-to-edge output.
Grid Spacing Options
Grid spacing controls the distance between lines or points. The available range runs from 1 mm to 2 inches, so you can make a fine technical grid or a larger page for teaching, planning, and sketches:
- 1 mm / 2 mm — fine grids for detailed technical drawings and math graph paper
- 5 mm (≈ ¼ inch) — the classic graph paper spacing, also known as 1/4-inch quad-rule
- 1 cm (1 centimeter square) — standard for metric math, science, and A4 graph paper worldwide
- ⅛ inch — 1/8-inch graph paper for precision engineering and architecture
- ½ inch / 1 inch — large squares for preschool, primary grades, and quick sketches
- 2 inch — extra-large squares for visual aids and poster layouts
Use the preset green, blue, black, gray, or red choices, or pick a custom color. For accurate output, print at 100% rather than using a printer option that automatically shrinks the page.
Types of Printable Graph Paper
Classic Formats
Square Grid — The Standard Printable Graph Paper
Horizontal and vertical lines create uniform squares — the most widely used printable graph paper for math homework, data tables, engineering layouts, and architectural sketches. Available in classic green, traditional blue, or any custom color. Spacing ranges from fine 1 mm grids to large squared paper, including 1/4-inch (quad-rule), 1/8-inch, 1 cm square, and 8×8-per-inch formats. Print as blank graph paper on A4 or 8.5 × 11 Letter.
Dot Grid Paper
Small dots at regular intervals replace full lines, creating dotted graph paper that is minimal and uncluttered. Popular for bullet journals, UI wireframes, freehand illustration, and handwriting practice. Available as a free printable dotted graph paper PDF in all six paper sizes.
Isometric Graph Paper
Lines at 60-degree angles form equilateral triangles — the standard for 3D object sketches, axonometric projections, and technical illustrations. Print full-size isometric graph paper as a PDF on A4 or Letter. Adjust triangle size and line color for product design, game art, and engineering coursework.
Hexagonal Graph Paper
An empty hexagon grid in a honeycomb layout — printable hexagonal graph paper for organic chemistry molecular structures, RPG battle maps, and tiling designs. Sizes range from 3 mm to 30 mm. Download 1/4-inch hexagon graph paper as a PDF in any supported page size.
Lined & Ruled Paper
Classic ruled paper for handwriting and note-taking — the school graph paper staple. Set line spacing from narrow rule (6 mm) to wide rule (11 mm) and add optional red margin lines. Combine with a grid column to create dual graph-and-lined paper on a single printable sheet.
Triangular Graph Paper
Equilateral triangle grids for tessellation studies, trigonometry, and design patterns. Download a printable triangle graph paper template as a PDF in A4, Letter, or any supported size.
Specialty Formats
Academic & Study Paper
Cornell notes, Cartesian coordinate plane with x and y axis, probability paper, decimal graph paper, Seyes (French ruled) paper, bar graph paper, and number lines — formatted to standard academic specifications. Print Cartesian graph paper with axes scaled to 10 or 20 and four-quadrant 10-by-10 grids for math class. Ideal as printable math graph paper for students from preschool through high school.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The graph paper generator is free to use, with no account needed. Create as many sheets as you need, preview each page, and save a PDF for school, work, planning, or personal projects without a watermark.
You can choose US Letter, A4, A5, Legal, Tabloid, or A3. The selected size is kept in the PDF, with portrait or landscape orientation available. The preview also shows the page dimensions and printable area before you download.
The tool includes 34 paper types, from square and dot patterns to isometric, hexagonal, triangular, Cartesian, polar, craft, and technical layouts. Select any type from the tabs to load its controls and preview the exact pattern before saving.
Open the PDF print dialog and choose Actual Size or 100% scale. Avoid Fit to Page, which can shrink the sheet and change the measured spacing. If your printer has a non-printable edge, keep the selected margin in mind.
Isometric graph paper uses angled lines to make 3D ideas easier to sketch on a flat page. It works well for product concepts, simple objects, room layouts, game maps, and technical practice because the repeated angles keep edges consistent.
Yes. A hexagonal grid gives you evenly spaced six-sided cells for molecular diagrams, tiling studies, board-game maps, and other layouts. Choose a smaller cell for detailed work or a larger one when you need room for labels and notes.
In everyday use, graph paper and grid paper mean a sheet with a repeated measured pattern. Graph paper is the phrase most people use for math and plotting, while grid paper can describe a wider range of layouts used for drawing, planning, or design.
Spacing options run from 1 mm to 2 inches. Common choices include 2 mm, 5 mm (¼ inch), 1 cm, ⅛ inch, ½ inch, 1 inch, and 2 inches. The selected spacing is used in the preview and carried into your printable graph paper PDF.
Yes. Choose the Cartesian paper type to add x and y axes. Its controls let you set the axis range and choose the layout offered for that type, so you can prepare a clear coordinate plane for lessons, homework, or graphing practice.
Choose No Margin in the Settings panel when your printer supports edge-to-edge printing. You can also use the 5 mm narrow option. The PDF follows that setting, but the printer itself may still leave a small border around the sheet.
Preset choices include green, blue, gray, black, and red. You can also open the custom color picker and choose your own line color. The selected color updates the preview and is used when the graph paper PDF is generated.
